Knitting Needles and All the Feels

In the last six months I've knitted 41 scarves and two blankets. I don't know weather to laugh or cry reading that line I just wrote. I mean, seriously. Who knits 18 scarves in the heat of summer in SoCal?!? I have to admit, this is the last hobby I expected to pick up, but honestly it's been one of the best things for me to start during this pandemic. Not only do I feel super accomplished when I finish a scarf, but it's a productive way to spend my time and it gives me something creative to do with my hands. I also feel like it's helped to relieve stress and anxiety and allows me a distraction when I would otherwise be antsy and fidgeting. It's been a meaningful project for me, being that I literally took holiday gift orders for color and style choices from my friends and family; each scarf I knitted was for someone specific who picked it. Tell me the color and I'll tell you whose scarf it is. I love that! It was so much fun getting to do porch drops to give everyone their holiday gifts. I even shipped a few as far away as Minnesota, Michigan, and New Hampshire!

One of my favorite things I knitted was a baby blanket for the lovely #Savannah Jane, #Laura's daughter, who was born on September 5. I had always marveled at the people who gifted handmade blankets at baby showers and now I can be that person! I knitted Savannah a scarf for Christmas and my goodness, look at this cutie, my first product model!

I knitted mostly scarves for human adults in two different styles, but below are some of the pets and babies that are loving the scarves I made! I can't tell you how amazing it feels to look at someone wearing something I made them. It's a special kind of warmth I've never felt before and definitely brings me all the feels. More of this, please!

It's been so important for me to find some new hobbies this year, and I hope others have been able to do the same. I'm really lucky to have found something I enjoy doing (and let's be honest, I can do it brainlessly while watching Hallmark Channel) that I can share with others, and I look forward to doing just that. I should have plenty of time to knit in 2021 while waiting for the pandemic to end, so I'm planning on selling my scarves as a small side business. Make sure you're following @heartshapedlens on Instagram for the product launch!
