I feel so fortunate to be able to travel around the country to tell amazing stories about elite athletes. But being able to do it at home with a fellow SoCal native is something special.
After being pushed back on my tournament calendar twice, Jack was my featured blogger in Daytona Beach earlier this year. He won double gold while his grandfather, then on hospice, watched on TV. The next day, his grandfather passed away and Jack texted me to let me know. Five months later, being able to reflect back on those events in this interview was emotional but empowering. Any journalist will tell you that the best stories are the ones that fate plays a small part in, and this was one of those.
